Fire Chief's Message

Thank you for visiting the website of the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District (ECCFPD). This site has been designed and will be maintained to provide as much information as possible about the fire district and current events.

ECCFPD was established in 2002 with the consolidation of one career and  two paid -on-call / volunteer fire districts; East Diablo (career) and Bethel Island & Oakley- Knightsen Fire Protection Districts (paid on call / volunteer).

ECCFPD is still a rural funded fire district that protects approximately 249 square miles and protects approximately 128,000 residents. The district provides firefighting personnel and emergency medical services (basic life support) to the residents and businesses of the City of Brentwood, and Oakley, and to the Townships of Discovery Bay, Bethel Island, Knightsen, Byron, Marsh Creek, and Morgan Territory.

ECCFPD currently has three (3) fire stations staffed by three (3) firefighters, for a total district staffing of nine (9) firefighters per day,  The district responds to over 7,700 calls a year that depends on approximately 9,590 fire engine responses.

The men and women of ECCFPD are trained professionals who are proud to serve their community as many of us live within the District's borders. Our mission, our future vision, and our values are centered on providing the most efficient and effective service possible within the restrictions of the revenue and resources we have.

Please enjoy our website and should you have any questions or comments regarding the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District, please contact me directly at (925) 584-8468, or email me at bhelmick@eccfpd.org.

Sincerely,

Brian J. Helmick
